Zero-Trust Architecture salary and demand: pay band and hiring trend

Reviewed by Mark Dickie · Last updated

Zero-Trust Architecture is a security design that requires every access request to be verified before it is trusted. Its market is measured here by two series: the salary band employers pay for zero-trust work, and the hiring-demand trend in postings that name it. The salary band covers the whole zero-trust market, not one seniority level, so treat the middle figure as a market reference rather than a rung on a ladder. The hiring series shows whether postings are rising or falling.

FigureWhat it measuresHow to read it
Salary percentiles (25th, median, 75th)Pay for roles that build or run ZTNA gateways, microsegmentation policy, or conditional access rulesCompare your current pay to the median; the 75th percentile shows what the top of the market pays for the same work
Hiring-demand seriesMonthly job postings that name NIST SP 800-207, ZTNA, microsegmentation, or SASEA rising line means more employers are writing the skill into requisitions; a flat line means demand is holding

Use the two series this way:

  1. Check the postings behind the hiring line. If your experience is in Zscaler Private Access, Palo Alto Prisma Access, or Cloudflare Access, the vendor-specific slice of demand matters more than the total.
  2. Separate the identity side from the network side. Postings often list Okta or Microsoft Entra ID conditional access work apart from network segmentation, so decide which one you want to grow in.
  3. Re-check the band before you negotiate. Pay for a tooling-specific skill moves with vendor choices, so a median you saw a while ago may no longer match current postings.

Hiring demand over time

We're not publishing a month-by-month series yet: the number of postings Tarmac collects each month is still growing, so a month-on-month change would measure our coverage rather than the job market.
